Girl’s Day Out Luncheon: Saturday 22nd May 2010
Special Guest Speaker: Margaret Harison

Margaret Harrison is a wheat farmer at Mungindi, which is an isolated community of 600 people on the QLD/NSW border.

Margaret believes that ordinary people can have an extraordinary impact on their community and the lives of others. Margaret passion is not to see small communities just survive in times of drought but to thrive and to be places of energy and enthusiasm. Margaret has been the driving force behind the three successful Music Festivals in Mungindi.

Margaret was able to bring world class performers to a remote community and give visitors and locals an experience to remember despite a lack of accommodation, transport and venues. Also, Margaret was aware of the demoralising effects of the drought on the community. Margaret could see the opportunities for the community by embracing and enjoying, the challenging idea of staging a music festival. Over 300 musicians and a thousand visitors flocked to the town of Mungindi for each Festival and the most recent Festival in October of 2009 won the Best Tourist Event in NSW / Act from a field of 400 applicants.

Margaret also runs community music program voluntarily each week for adults and children in Mungindi because she believes that music can change people lives. She is also a Selector for the Australian Open Garden Scheme and is on the Regional Advisory Board for Woman and Leadership Australia.
She has also, much to her surprise, become a much sort after public speaker and has spoken to groups and at events all over Australia.

Tickets are $35 per head available from Undercover Sleepwear and Lingerie
